What is intuitive massage therapy?

Intuitive massage therapy is a body led approach where I listen to what your system needs in the moment rather than following a fixed routine. Techniques and pressure shift based on what your tissues, breath, and nervous system are asking for.

How is this different from a regular massage?

A regular massage often follows a set sequence. Intuitive massage responds to you specifically, session to session. Some days that means deep tissue work, other days it means slow, gentle touch. The approach changes based on what your body needs that day.

Do we need to talk throughout the massage session?

Not at all. I follow your lead and only chat when spoken to. Some of my best work happens in silence. Never feel guilty for wanting to drift off during your session, I actually encourage it. Take full advantage of the time to rest.

Do I need to undress fully?

You are draped and covered throughout the session, and you only undress to your comfort level. Please let me know your preference before we begin.

How often should I get a massage?

This depends on what you are working with. Some clients come weekly during a period of high stress or pain, others come monthly for maintenance. I can help you figure out a schedule that fits your needs.

Can massage help with stress or anxiety?

Yes. Many clients find that massage helps calm the nervous system, ease tension, and create a greater sense of groundedness, alongside its physical benefits.

Do you direct bill insurance?

Yes, I direct bill most insurance companies. Please contact your insurance directly to confirm your coverage and the correct information for your plan.

How do I book a session?

Sessions are available at Hoofstone Acres and Treestone Intuitive Massage Therapy and Wellness by appointment through Janeapp, or feel free to contact me directly.

Massage Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

Massage Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

What is Horse Medicine?

Horse Medicine is an experiential healing session guided by the wisdom, presence, and connection of horses. Horses are deeply attuned beings who respond to our energy, emotions, and nervous system. Through quiet observation, connection, and mindful interaction, they can help us slow down, reconnect with ourselves, and explore what is ready to be seen and felt.

Do I need horse experience?

No. You do not need any previous horse experience. Horse Medicine is not about riding or horsemanship skills. It is about connection, presence, and being open to what the horses may reflect back to you.

What happens during a Horse Medicine session?

Each session is unique and guided by what unfolds in the moment. You may spend time observing the herd, connecting with a specific horse, walking alongside them, sitting quietly in their presence, or participating in gentle guided practices. There is no pressure to "do" anything, the horses meet you exactly where you are.

Is this the same as horseback riding or equine therapy?

No. Horse Medicine is not a riding lesson, and it is different from traditional equine-assisted therapy programs. It is a heart-centred, intuitive experience focused on connection, awareness, and personal reflection through the presence of horses.

What can horses help us with?

People often experience horses as powerful mirrors and teachers. Sessions may support you in exploring:

  • Self-awareness and emotional connection

  • Boundaries and trust

  • Grounding and nervous system regulation

  • Confidence and self-expression

  • Grief, transitions, and life changes

  • Reconnecting with your intuition and inner wisdom

Every person's experience is unique, and no two sessions are ever the same.

What should I wear?

Dress for the outdoors and the weather. Comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes or boots, and layers are recommended. Please expect to be around bugs, dirt, mud, hay, and curious horses.

Are the horses safe?

The horses at Hoofstone Acres are respected as partners, not tools. Their well-being, along with your safety, is always the priority. You will be guided on how to interact with the herd while honouring their space, communication, and individual personalities.

Can I bring treats for the horses?

We ask that guests do not bring treats for the horses. At Hoofstone Acres, our focus is on creating authentic connection and allowing the horses to engage freely, without food being the motivation.

The relationship we build with the herd is based on presence, trust, respect, and clear communication, not on what we can offer them. The horses are encouraged to choose connection in their own way, creating a deeper and more meaningful experience for everyone.

What if I'm nervous around horses?

That is completely okay. Many people arrive feeling unsure or intimidated by horses. You are never expected to approach or touch a horse before you are ready. Often, the relationship begins simply by being present.

Sessions do not need to take place in close proximity to the horses or even inside the pasture. For some people, observing the horses from outside the fence feels more comfortable, and the fence can provide a reassuring boundary while still allowing for a powerful and meaningful connection.

Can children and teenagers attend?

Yes, children and teenagers are welcome to attend Horse Medicine sessions. Because each experience is unique, and the safety and comfort of both the horses and participants are important, please contact me before booking so we can discuss the session and ensure it is the right fit for your child or teen.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The horses live outdoors, and the weather is part of their world. Sessions may continue in many conditions with appropriate clothing. However, in the interest of safety and comfort, severe weather may require the session to be rescheduled.

How many people are in a session?

Sessions may be offered privately or in small groups, allowing space for meaningful connection in a calm, supportive environment for both people and horses.

Do I need to have a specific intention or problem to work on?

No. You do not need to arrive with something to fix. Sometimes the greatest insights come when we simply slow down, listen, and allow space for whatever wants to emerge.

What should I expect to feel after a session?

Many people leave feeling calmer, more grounded, connected, and reflective. Every experience is unique, and the horses often offer exactly what each person is ready to receive.
